Wow - a second hand book shop sounds like heaven!
There's a wonderful place in Alnwick called Barter Books and it is the largest second hand book shop in Europe. Mark would love it. The owners have bought the old station and converted it. There are also a couple of steam engines in there being "done up" and you just pour yourself fresh coffee and read - all day if you wish! It's the best place in the world for people who like second hand book shops. There are miles of shelves (no kidding) We usually come home with a couple of hundred or so books!!!
Lots of love Jeanxxxx

That IS heaven! LOL
Mark once sold 500 of his sci fi books to a specialist place....a few months later we went to this very well know book fair in Oxford. We always went in separately and would fill up a few boxes worth of books. When Mark emerged I noticed half of his box was full of the books he had sold because 'he missed them' LOL
He reads about four books at once which I find quite alarming! I can read two but they have to be factual and fiction.
I was onyl joking re the second hand book store, there is NO way we could afford it, we'd earn nothing. Plus we have close friends who own a second hand theology and history shop in Oxford, and another couple who run a book shop, so we would not want to compete! LOL
Mark does sell second hand books on E-bay though! (for fun)!
Much love,
Amanda

Talking of books - I'm reading a page-turner at the moment. I don't want to read it too quickly though as I'm enjoying it so much! It's called the Lost Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. Anyone read it?

No Lynn, but will do after your recommendation. Thanks - it's always good to hear of books people have enjoyed. I've just finished Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain and thought it would be a dry as ditch water, but surprisingly, it was excellent and a good read to boot! Love Jeanxxxx

Hi Lyn I started reading The Lost Daughter a few months ago but had trouble getting into it. It's sat on the shelf again now!! Would you recommend I give it another go? Didn't you all have a book club running not so long ago? Is it still going? I love reading; it's one thing I can still do even with bad joints!! Lyn x

Oh we LOVE books too! We have literally thousands here...and Mark is always selling some on e-bay/Amazon too!
I have recently re-read the most wonderful trilogy called 'KRISTIN LAVRANSDATTER' by Sigrid Undset. I read them at Uni and found them again a few months ago. The translation is excellent too..
Now I am reading 'The song of Bernadette' by Franz Werfel. (He is a Jewish author and was hidden and helped in the town of Lourdes in WW2. Whilst there he vowed that if he ever escaped he would sing Bernadette's song!).
For fun I am about to re-read 'Miss Garnet's angel' by Sally Vickers which I loved and I want to transport myself back to Venice!
Love,
Amanda
